A Mathematics Panel has been formed in an effort to improve the teaching and learning of Mathematics in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This panel seeks to Analyze and review Mathematics syllabuses; Advise on the selection of appropriate teaching and learning resources; Propose strategies and approaches for teaching concepts and Organize and conduct training workshops.

It also aims to maintain an item bank of questions for assessment and evaluate and provide guidance on the assessment of and for learning.

According to the SVG Education Media Unit, the panel consists of primary and secondary school teachers, education officers and retired educators of Mathematics.

Kenneth Holder is the Convener, Nichole Franklyn – Assistant to the Convener and Shirley Lewis – the Secretary.

In August, Minister of Education St. Clair Prince had said that the Ministry of Education is looking into methodology to improve the pass rate among students sitting Mathematics at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination.

The Education Minister said in Parliament on Tuesday August 29, 2017 that the performance in Mathematics is currently on a downward spiral not only here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines but also in other Caribbean countries.

He disclosed that the pass rate in Mathematics here moved from 47.35% in 2016, to 40.13% in 2017.
