Members of the local media will be given a walk-through today of the security and safety procedures conducted on a daily basis at the Argyle International Airport (AIA).

This activity comes in light of recent complaints by persons relating to missing luggage items.

The AIA says today’s exercise is therefore aimed at enabling persons in the media to respond to their listeners and customers from a more informed position as it relates to prohibited travelling items and security procedures.

In commenting recently in relation to this issue, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said the Airport Security applies regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Speaking last week here on WEFM, Dr. Gonsalves said officials at AIA told him that the requisite safety and security equipment is installed at the airport and a review of CCTV cameras have not revealed any untoward action by scanners and baggage handlers at the airport.

Prime Minister Gonsalves said care must be taken to ensure that security procedures are properly followed at all times by all employees at the airport.

The walk-through for media representatives at AIA takes place from 3pm.
