The Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment Hon. Luke Browne during a press conference yesterday disclosed that there will soon be local PCR testing done for COVID-19.

“We want to make testing as expansive as possible and we had a positive development along these lines which suggest that certainly by sometime next week we might be in a position to have our own PCR machine in St.Vincent and the Grenadines and start testing even after you fact in a period of training. So, perhaps within a week’s time or so we will be able to commence testing locally in St.Vincent and the Grenadines.”

PCR tests are used to directly detect the presence of an antigen, rather than the presence of the body’s immune response, or antibodies. By detecting viral RNA, which will be present in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease are present; the tests can tell whether or not someone has the virus very early on.
