Mr. Jaundy Martin was sworn in today September 18, 2017, as St. Vincent and the Grenadines new Attorney General.

Mr. Martin took the oath of secrecy and the oath of office at a ceremony this morning at the House of Assembly Chambers.

He replaces former Attorney General Judith Jones-Morgan who demitted office on Friday September 15, 2017. Mrs. Jones-Morgan was the longest serving Attorney General here, having had assumed that post in 2001.

Jaundy Ornetter Rochelle Martin was born in the Village of Montaque in the community of Marriaqua on September 24, 1972.

He received his early education at the Marriaqua Government School then the Cane End Government School, after which he pursued his secondary education and sixth form studies at the Saint Vincent Grammar School.

Jaundy completed his qualifications to practice law in 1998 when he graduated from the Hugh Wooding Law School. He was admitted as a barrister at law and solicitor to practice in the state of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in 1998 and has since then pursued a legal career that has spanned a period of 14 years.

In his career Jaundy has held several posts including Registrar of the family court, administrator of severance payments for former plantation workers in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines local co-ordinator for the Caribbean Court of Justice and coordinator of the legal aid project for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

In his private practice Jaundy has placed particular emphasis on civil litigation including child and family law, land law, personal injury, commercial law and maritime law. He was consulted to prepare the second and third periodic report for Saint and the Grenadines on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Child abuse protocol and through the CARICOM secretariat a legal policy document on legal policy and discrimination with respect to persons living with HIV/AIDS in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Jaundy is a court appointed mediator for the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. Jaundy is a former executive member of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Bar Association.

Meanwhile… Former Attorney General Judith Jones-Morgan in addressing the swearing in ceremony, said that Mr. Martin has satisfied all the legal requirements for the post of Attorney General. She described him as warm, friendly, compassionate, loving and upright individual.

Mrs. Judith Jones-Morgan congratulated Mr. Martin on his assumption of duties as Attorney General and expressed confidence that the office of the attorney general will fully support him.

The new Attorney General, Mr. Martin, said he is committed to serving the Government and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with excellence

In addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said Mr. Martin has been appointed as a Public Servant Attorney General, and not in a political capacity. He therefore will not participate in debates in Parliament or speak there, unless requested to do so by the House Speaker on a particular legal matter that is before the House of Assembly.

Dr. Gonsalves said he is satisfied that Mr. Martin will do well in his post as Attorney General.
