Borrowing the term “shared responsibility” from the Ministry of Health, President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Christian Council, Rev. Adolf Davis addressed the matter of holding politicians accountable to the section of the code of conduct which states “candidates will not use half truths, lies or innuendos to gain political advantage”.
“The problem with politics and campaigning is that a lot of times people use just what the code talks about; half truths, people use part of the truth to hyperbolize into something else and we have to- I think everyone in St. Vincent, we have to responsibility in saying “look, we are not going to accept this”. We speak to them directly, we give the information NMCM and most of the times we know some of the politicians themselves and we can talk to them and say “man, we gotta do better than this”.
“A lot of the time people claim politicians do what they think people want and they feel that if they could hyperbolize and give some extravagant ideas and plans that they have no intention of realizing, that’s all people want, they want promises, they don’t want any genuine commitment to do, and I think we as a nation and people have to be part of that process.”
General elections in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be held on Nov. 5, 2020, about four months ahead of the constitutional deadline.
