The Dominica government announced yesterday that it would bestow the island’s highest award on noted historian Dr. Lennox Honychurch.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that Honychurch, age 65, has made a tremendous contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, having served also as a parliamentarian and involved in the talks that led to the island attaining its political independence from Britain 40 years ago.

According to CMC News, Honychurch will receive the Dominica Order of Honor during the 40th anniversary celebrations on November 3.

Skerrit said “We have felt that Dr. Honychurch certainly is a national icon and treasure and someone who has contributed immensely to our overall development and particularly guiding the country from a historical perspective.”
