Greece has flown 30 refugees to Luxembourg in the first round of relocations under the EU’s plan to redistribute migrants.

According to BBC News, the six families, from Syria and Iraq, are among the first to be moved under aims to share out nearly 160,000 migrants across the bloc.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who was at Athens airport to see off the first group of refugees today, said they were making “a trip to hope”.

But he warned they were merely a tiny fraction of the hundreds of thousands of people who have arrived on European shores this year.
