There might be an extension applied to the NIS unemployment benefits as well as other payments that were brought about as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is according to Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.
“There are many benefits, for instance, the unemployment benefit, for all sets of workers through the NIS system and those which we finance outside of the NIS system.
Some of them we had said three months, but it looks as if that three months is coming to an end. It looks as though we’ll have to extend the benefits, because we are not yet back to normalcy.”
Gonsalves said he had been consulting with The Minister of Finance and Director General of Financing as well as the Director of the NIS, concerning the matter.
