Many of the Vincentian seamen who have been sent home in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic are finding it difficult to make ends meet. According to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, the Government is putting things in place to help them.

“The seafarers who have come home, a number of them are finding it difficult, and we have to find a way to help.”

Prime Minister Gonsalves said he had already held meetings with Minister of Finance Hon. Camillo Gonsalves and the Director General of Finance and Planning pertaining to the issue of the sailors, and that it was his intention to take the matter to cabinet.

Gonsalves said that despite the fact the government had not yet announced a programme to help the sailors, he had already received over 200 applications from seafarers.
