The Forestry Division is appealing to members of the public to monitor their immediate neighborhood and surrounding areas for any signs of the deliberate lighting of bush fires.

This comes in light of the occurrence of a series of huge bush fires in the dryer parts of the country, such at Edinboro/Ottley Hall, Great Head and on the leeward coast over the past week.

The Department is asking for the public’s assistance in deterring or preventing the wanton lighting of these fires and to report to the Forestry Department or the nearest police station any fires that may occur.

The Forestry Department says the lighting of bush fires is a serious offence and those caught in the act can and will be charged.
