The Forestry Department is appealing to persons who have been observed hunting for wildlife within the forest reserves particularly at Kings Hill, Balliseaux, Vermont Nature Trail and Battowia, to desist from doing so.

The Department said in a release that this is an offence according to the Wildlife Protection Act 16 of 1987, which prohibits hunting within the boundaries of all Forest Reserves.

Persons found in contravention of this are liable to a fine of $2,000 as a first offender and $4,000 plus one year confinement on a second offence.

The hunting season commenced on October 1st, 2015, and will come to an end on January 31st, 2016.
