Five students will participate next week in the finals of the 2017 Youth Summer Reading Challenge hosted by WEFM Radio.

The finalists were selected following a preliminary round of the Summer Reading Challenge, which is now into its fourth year and targets young people ages 13 to 15.

Co-ordinator of WEFM’s 2017 Youth Summer Reading Challenge, Crystal Bynoe-Greaves said there were a number of entries this year for the Reading Challenge.

The finalists are: Davanne Thomas of Bishop College Kingstown, Kiandra McDowall of Buccament Bay Secondary, Lanique Cupid of Thomas Saunders Secondary, Camesha Bowens of Dr. J.P. Eustace Memorial Secondary School and Jada Chambers of the St. Vincent Girls High School.

Mrs. Bynoe-Greaves said that during the week of July 24-28 the finalists will be trained in basic radio broadcasting.

The training will center on fluency, diction, and confidence.

On Thursday July 27, the finalist will compete LIVE on Air by reading the news.

The Summer Programme concludes on Friday July 28, with an awards ceremony.
