St. Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded its first confirmed case of the mosquito borne Zika Virus.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment received the first confirmation of Zika virus fever in this country from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) late yesterday afternoon. The adult patient has, however, already recovered completely.

The Ministry of Health has taken the appropriate steps to respond to this confirmation, and is again appealing to all persons in St Vincent and the Grenadines to protect themselves from mosquito bites and to ensure that there are no mosquito breeding sites in their environs.

The Health Ministry will be hosting a news conference at two this afternoon, at its conference room to update the public on our shared response to this latest development.
