Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour, Saboto Caesar has hailed the expansion taking place within the local fisheries sector.

Addressing the opening ceremony of a Business Round Table on the OECS Agriculture Competitiveness (AGRICOM) Project on Wednesday at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown, Minister Caesar noted that the largest single shipment of fish ever in the history of St. Vincent and the Grenadines was done this year.

Minister Caesar said this was done because there was a policy to have the Fisheries Centres be made available to Co-operatives and companies.

He also commended the fish vendors in Kingstown at the Little Tokyo market, for forming themselves into a Vendors Co-operative.

The Agriculture Minister said expansion is also taking place with regard to cocoa production.

According to Minister Caesar “we now have 850 acres of cocoa in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

He further stated that he was informed by the St. Vincent Cocoa Company that by the end of this year, their projection for 2018 is that they would export approximately 1,050 chocolate bars.
