In-form batsman Evin Lewis will replace the injured Lendl Simmons on the West Indies team for the World T20 tournament, which got under way in India on Tuesday, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced.

The 24 year old Lewis, is receiving his maiden call up after a string of outstanding performances in the NAGICO Super50 and the WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) for Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.

Lewis, a former West Indies under 19 player, has been called up as a replacement for Simmons who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury.

West Indies arrived in Kolkata on Monday and will play their two official warm-up matches against hosts India on Thursday and Australia on Sunday.
