Emera Caribbean Limited, one of the companies partnering with this country’s government to develop the National geothermal project has denied claims that it is having discussions with the Government about acquiring a controlling shareholding interest in the St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC).

Peter Williams, Managing Director of Emera (Caribbean) Incorporated said in a statement that “no such discussions are taking place or have taken place,” contrary to recent statements which have appeared in the local media.

According to Mr. Williams a project of this scale requires many partners to work in close cooperation, and in this regard, VINLEC is playing an important role in the project in meeting its duty to ensure the energy from the proposed geothermal plant is delivered to the grid in a manner that does not compromise the safety and reliability of the electricity network.

He said VINLEC engineers are engaged and will continue to be involved in discussions regarding the transmission interconnection requirements and other technical aspects of the project.
