Persons who have borrowed loans from the National Student Loan Company in an effort to pursue their University Education, but who are delinquent in repaying those loans, are being urged to pay their student loan.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves speaking on the issue on Monday in Parliament said that the National Student Loan Company recently had to publish the names of a number of persons who are delinquent in repaying their student loans and some who have other matters to address with the agency.

Dr. Gonsalves said it is not right for persons who have decently paying jobs to not repay their student loans.

Dr. Gonsalves said the government has a liability of about 90 million dollars under the Student Loan Programme for economically disadvantaged students.

He explained that if persons continue to be delinquent in paying their student loans, this will affect others who plan on borrowing loans from the National Student Loan Company in the future.

Meanwhile, speaking further on the issue today on WEFM’s Morning program, Prime Minister Gonsalves issued an appeal for persons who are currently facing difficulties in repaying their student loans, to go into the National Student Loan Company and explain their situation to the officials there.
