The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment has welcomed two additional medical specialists to the staff of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

Under the corporation agreement between St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Cuba, an Anesthesiologist and a General Surgeon joined the staff yesterday October 2, 2017.

This serves to strengthen the delivery of healthcare services in this country.

Minister of Health, Luke Browne, was on hand to welcome the physicians as they prepared to commence duties.

Minister Browne thanked the doctors and Cuba for coming to SVG’s assistance in response to official requests at a critical time. He said that the arrival of the two highly qualified medical professionals is a “significant development in the operations at the hospital and should be applauded.”

Browne said the hospital is now in an even better position to efficiently perform surgeries, make life saving interventions and give effect to the government’s policy of Health for All.

He further stated that his Ministry’s mission and mandate is to secure, as best as possible, all the human resources and other resources required to take care of the health needs of the population.

According to Minister Browne, the appointments represent a step in the right direction.
