As the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines moves forward with its plans to establish a medicinal cannabis industry here, the question was raised as to whether the government will offer a pardon or criminal record suspension to individuals here who were previously convicted for possession of cannabis.

This was among the questions raised at a luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in September.

The topic discussed was: The Medical Cannabis Industry – Prospects and Opportunities.

Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar noted that the Select Committee which is currently considering the three Bills which comprise the legal framework for the medicinal cannabis industry, has been exploring the idea regarding offering pardon to Vincentians previously convicted for possession of cannabis.

Minister Caesar said he is aware of cases in some countries where pardons having been offered to persons convicted of a marijuana crime.
