A company has been engaged by the Government of St. Vincent Grenadines to map the underwater/seabed resources of the country.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves disclosed this information while speaking in Calliaqua during the handing over of a new coast guard vessel. He said there was no prior mention of this undertaking because he was waiting on the right time to speak about it.

Gonsalves said the engagement took place last year, saying that government wishes to know of the underwater resources that are available to the country.

He said the International Seabed Authority (ISA) located in Jamaica deals with things of this nature. Prime Minister Gonsalves said while it is impossible for us to map everything, it is important to know what we have.
