The receiving of ashes on Ash Wednesday this year will be done differently due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Anglican Church will be facilitating the imposition of ashes in two ways.
The ash will be packaged and made available for persons to collect.
The option of actually going to the Cathedral is also available, but those who do so will be expected to line up and follow COVID-19 protocols, the ash will be administered with a Q-tip rather than with the finger.
The Ash Wednesday service will also be broadcasted via online platforms for those at home to take part.
The Methodist church has decided against ash distribution altogether and is unlikely to have a gathering on Wednesday.
