The Chinese government has committed to financing the reconstruction of a highway in Dominica which suffered major damage during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika in late August, and help resettle residents who were displaced by the storm.

The Edward Oliver Leblanc Highway, or West Coast Road, was significantly damaged during the storm that claimed dozens of lives and caused millions of dollars in damage.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the work would not only repair the damage but will include interventions to reduce the chances of future damage.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a press conference to update the nation on his activities as he continues to solicit assistance to rebuild the country.

About his recent trip to Southeast Asia to seek investment opportunities, he said there are tremendous opportunities for Dominica there.
