As part of the commemoration of the fortieth anniversary of Independence, Dr. Adrian Fraser, in collaboration with the University of the West Indies Open Campus Country Site, will launch his fifth book on the history of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. His latest book is entitled, “From Villain to National Hero: Chatoyer and the Early Struggle for Independence of St. Vincent (Yurumein)”.

The launch takes place on Thursday September 19th at 6:00 pm at Frenches House. In his commentary on the book, Vincentian historian, Dr. Michael Dennie notes that the book, ‘is necessary, timely and needs to be available for all Vincentians and Caribbean people as soon as possible’. He further states that because Dr. Fraser has brought the work to the current moment, it is unlike others.

The book traces the transformation of Chatoyer from villain as seen through colonial texts to his status as our first national hero and makes the point that the early struggle for Independence began with Chatoyer.

It therefore broadens the concept and meaning of National Independence and is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of our Independence.

The University of the West Indies Open Campus extends a special invitation to the public and the media to attend the launch.
