Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Mottley has hinted at more layoffs within the public service, as she promised to update Barbadian on her Government’s external debt restricting plan.

According to Caribbean news service, Mottley said on a radio program that, those discussions are continuing and the public will be advised shortly of what they will be doing with respect to the foreign debt situation.

She was quoted saying “the truth is, the foreign debt has always been the smallest part of the overall debt; just over 20 per cent.

The Prime Minister further stated that they do anticipate that they will have to bring resolution to that within the next few weeks to months, noting that her government which came to power in May last year, had inherited more than BD$15 billion in public debt.
