Fifty seven new HIV cases have been recorded here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the period January to October 2015.

That is compared to 65 HIV cases which were recorded here for the period January to December 2014.

In an interview with WEFM News today, Director of the HIV/AIDS, STIs program in the Ministry of Health, Ferosa Roache said there are now 1,488 cases of HIV/AIDS in this country.

Ms. Roache said that of the 57 new cases, 39 are males and 18 females.

According to Ms. Roache, among the reasons for this increase in HIV cases here include the fact that many persons continue to have unprotected sex.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines recorded its first HIV case in 1984.
