Police in Trinidad say they have detained one person and are searching for two others after a 14-year-old school boy was killed and his home set on fire over the weekend.

Police said the charred and dismembered body of Darian Ned, a first form student of the Siparia East Secondary School, was found amid the ruins of the wooden house on Sunday. His right foot and left hand were missing.

Ned’s mother, Christine, said she was not at home when the fire started and that she had made several reports to the police, begging for assistance to save her son.

Media reports said the 14-year-old had witnessed a crime and may have been killed as a result.
