Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that 14 people have been confirmed dead and 16 are still missing after the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.

He made that announcement while delivering the main address yesterday at the Independence Day Parade of Uniformed Groups held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

“To date, out of a total population of 72,340 people, 14 people were confirmed dead, 16 are missing, 574 are homeless and 1034 evacuated, with approximately 7,229 impacted by the event in special disaster zones,” Prime Minister Skerritt said, according to a report by Dominica News Online.

He expressed condolences to those who have lost loved ones during the passage of the storm.

The Prime Minister stated that Tropical Storm Erika caused a major setback to the progressive development of the country and has forced his government to go back to the drawing board and rethink on its entire strategy.
