West Indies men’s and women’s teams gave their fans cause for double celebration by reaching their respective ICC World T20 finals in India on Thursday.

At the Wankhede Stadium, Britney Cooper and captain Stafanie Taylor combined to take the women into their first-ever T20 final, where they will play Australia, following a close six-run win over New Zealand.

While in the later match, the men produced a magnificent run chase to stun India by seven wickets overhauling an imposing target of 193 with two balls to spare, in a riveting encounter to clinch a place in Sunday’s final against England.

They were propelled by Lendl Simmons who carved out an exhilarating, career-best unbeaten 82 and opener Johnson Charles, who scored 52, while Andre Russell weighed in with a whirlwind unbeaten 43.

Simmons was caught twice, on 18 and 50, but both times the bowlers had overstepped for no-balls and he made the hosts pay dearly for their mistakes.
