The travel industry is ramping up efforts to get out the message that many Caribbean islands were unaffected by hurricanes and that their economies depend on tourism.

According to AFP news agency, tourism agencies and travel companies are promoting deals, events and fundraising efforts while letting vacationers know that many destinations were unscathed by the storms or have already recovered.

The Travel Leaders travel agency and AAA Travel have both launched campaigns to increase consumer awareness.

A website, CaribbeanIsOpen.com, is part of an initiative funded by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association to help promote post-hurricane tourism.
