Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves today congratulated the firefighters who worked diligently on Sunday to bring under control a fire that destroyed the buildings that formerly housed the Treasury and the Electoral Offices in Kingstown.

Speaking in parliament this morning, Prime Minister Gonsalves noted that the efforts of the firefighters resulted in minimal damage to the Old National Commercial bank (NCB) Building that now houses the National Registry.

Dr. Gonsalves said the government is doing everything to upgrade the local fire service.

He further noted that the reason why the fire trucks which were recently bought for use at the International Airport at Argyle were not used to assist in outing the fire is because the trucks were not fully commissioned and additional training of the local firefighters has to be completed.
