The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment is collaborating with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) to conduct a three day training workshop on the Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections, STIs, and the human immunodeficiency virus, HIV.

The workshop commenced this morning at the Methodist Church Hall, and will conclude on Friday August 28th.

The training is being facilitated by two international consultants, Dr. Tina Hylton-Kong and Dr. Yitades Gebre.

The primary goal of this Workshop is to enhance the capacity of the primary health care provider to effectively manage STI/HIV-related conditions with the use of the 2013 OECS HIV/STI Guidelines alongside updated scientific evidence.

At the end of the Workshop, it is expected that the participants will be able to utilize the updated information presented on the epidemiology of HIV/STI within the region in their primary health care services; and to formulate practical strategies to strengthen local STI/HIV surveillance.
